What is up with masks? do we not want to be our true selves? are we not told all the time "just be yourself", and "accept so and so for who they are". is change really possible? do we all (humans) have neurons in our brain that basically tell us what to think and how to be? do we all not have basic animal instincts that say fight or flight? how much free will do we have? where is God in all the above? if I (or the community) do not do mitvot does any of it matter? won’t Gods wrath /sword, Right Arm, be unleashed? (as the Naviim all describe)?

So "instead" of diving deeply into the above, we get masks, give gifts, and drink 😉
