I know this sounds preachy and religious … the entire point of religion [in my view], all of it… is to bend / guide humans away from our base nature [instincts, survival, the "average" ].

It surprises me when our greatest commentators say that the mispatiim are basically laws that any place/people would have… and hukkim are "super rational"?? !!

Who says humans would make laws that are "mispat"????

Sure even criminals / pirates have some system of who is in charge, some way to enforce "rules"…. but do we want to live on a pirate ship???

Only the strongest survive? Putting kids to Molach?? Is that the base line???

7 [sometimes up to 10] nations were in Israel… and all were kicked out / forgotten over time… due to well doing whatever was right in their own eyes.

Worshipping under any tree.. [which the Naviim say about us hebrews in their navuah]

If mispatim are "logical" then they would not really need to be written down!! It would be self understood

Sure one can ask.. well, how exactly does not wearing wool and linen together help society? Does God really care if I mix seeds?? Do I really think God knows what little ole me is up to?

The Torah say yes.
