How did King Shlomo know that there would be nothing new under the sun? Did he also mean before his time?
To say he has a dash of prophecy / ruach hakodesh…. which loosely translates as Gods wind / or / holy spirit I suppose.
But reveal this nugget to him and not to an established prophet? Or to Moses our teacher.
The hole in the earth – was described by Moses our teacher as a new thing — so that way the people who were against him would know it was via God….that the hole appeared.
But — Pikey Avot states it was there from the time of creation [in a list of things]
Speaking of old / eternal ideas….
Later – "much" later… another jewish person wrote, quoting sources, that everything has its opposite.
Holiness has the Sitra Achra ; Klipa Noga has the unclean Klipot that can "never" be repaired.
In the far East – but no longer that far, it is called Ying / Yang.
In the slightely closer Iran…in ancient Iran, one of the worlds oldest religions, maybe even older than revealed Judaism was the duality of Zoroastrianism – that emphasizes the struggle between good and evil, embodied by the deities Ahura Mazda (representing goodness and wisdom) and Angra Mainyu (representing evil and destruction.
Thank you AI. Also represents 1s and Zeros.
Between the Heaven and the Earth.
; so nothing new under the sun. What is its opposite?
What is the opposite of new? Or what is the opposite of nothing?
; which part of the phrase will there be nothing new of ? —-
And it not my place to question King Shlomo … but… well, how could he be so sure?
What does it even mean? Perhaps…
And I will take a stab at it from the beit cafe…
That humans cannot truly make or think of anything original. Their discoveries so to speak were built on previous knowledge.
There was always a tong that made [held] tongs. The list of those things….it is not a coincidence that it is 10.
1/0
Decimals. Also Ten Utterances to Create the world [between the heavens and the earth]
Also Ten Plagues each an opposite to the Ten Commandments.
The [up to ] ten Nations listed in the Torah. I know we usually speak of 7, but on the low end there were 6, and on the high end 10.
And the Ten Commandments.
If we look into creative counting in the Hagadah …that is printed in *every version* we see that the 10 Plagues can get easily expanded.. since we’re discussing God…
Forever expanding. Into "new" empty space?
Or was that "always" there? Was not creation itself "something new"??? And only after the Sun [day 4] there was nothing new?…..
We like to think we’re so clever. Flying to the moon… rockets beyond our solar system… and yet nothing new under the sun…what are we looking for beyond the star[s]???
Perhaps a "new" thing?
If – as we say, God created everything that would include alien life.
But they are not under our sun… so would that be "new"?
The other day… and this is not a Mr Blank story, one of my teenage children said to me
" I believe in heaven or hell.." and proceeded to say, that "if" there was then EVERYTHING would be in either heaven or hell… all the animals… all the microscopic items…
Everything that was born would have to go somewhere — or in his opinion – there is not an "after"… We – and everything – is born and then dies.
And that is it
Of course I said the usual. "Well, the heaven / hell concept is not exactly or even close to what Judaism has to say on the matter…" .. to which this person said "ohhh abba, stop, .. that is not the point.. "
In the end as I drove on the road – between – the heaven and the earth – I had to ssy
"I hear you" .. and I added "I’ve to admit, that is rather depressing / bleak".
