There are influences and then there are influences.
Many times, we compare things to a movie, or a TV show. Our we take our cues / and thoughts from celebrities who just happen to say what we are already thinking. We constantly seek validation and the world of “thumbs up” emojis, clicks, likes, re-tweets, was built on this adrenaline rush we feel when “someone” out there agrees. Or says what we’re thinking “how brave” — when they literally hold the same opinion as me(!). Bill Mahar, the comedian has some short plug that sounds pro-Israel, and we all go crazy — wow ! see, someone famous says it! And we re-tweet it, and put it in our WhatsApp groups, and then those people re-tweet it, re-post it and so-on and so forth. Same when it something we do not agree with. “Can you believe so-and-so said X”? Usually something against the values we have / hold dear. Everything is about me/ myself and I. If the person does not agree, or say what I want to hear, then naturally they are against what I say/believe or want to hear.
You do know that there are “only” 3 billion or so people online, which sounds like alot, and is, but it is not even half the world? And that no one person can “hear” everything said/ posted? You (nor me) are not a black-hole vortex of all things stated/ posted / re-tweeted. So, when people say “I did not hear” or “crickets”,,… I mean are you some aggregator of all the available content in the entire Internet? You do realize that you are only getting the loop feedback based on your searches, your likes, you’re retweets? That no matter how many news feeds you subscribe to it is quite possible, –actually super likely that there is an entire world that has no idea you exist, or cares about what you care about — no matter how important said topic is.
Even, yes, even dear Israel. Not every blue tic celeb has an opinion, and even if every single one of them did, why does it matter to you anyway? Why do you need someone out there to confirm what you already decided?
If one reads the Naviim … (at least the first two out of the 12), this problem of Am Israel, and Hebrews/ (jews,) — no one referred to themself as a Jew in the times of the Naviim… but anyway, the point is, the 2 Naviim have some rather HARSH words to say to me, to you, to anyone who was around. One even literally got thrown in a dungeon next to the Kings palace for what God was telling him to say — and the words? Yikes hareef. We are called Whores. We are called stupid. For going around lifting our skirts for every lover.
Sounds to me like chasing blue tik validation…. Or getting the “like” / re-tweet/ follower/subscriber to our blogs, to our YouTube channel that I keep whoring out to anyone …
Bottomline? We mamash should give no shits about what anyone things about what we hold true.
If it just so happens that your favorite TV personality has a team of writers and they come up with something positive to say about near-and dear Israel… I guess, then wallla. But guess what it will not free any hostage. It will not stop any war.
God enabled Hamas, the war, the burning of pregnant women. God did that. That was within God’s Ratzon. If we do not believe this, then we do not truly believe in the God we say we believe in.
God enabled Hitler, and Stalin, and every wind that blows, that has ever blown and will ever blow.
There is absolutely nothing that does not happen without God. We sing this in our Shabbot songs, and at our beit knesset, and we “say” we believe in this. We pound our chests on Yom Kippur and ask God to rip up the bad things that “could” (and do) happen. So of course God “could” do whatever God wants, and this means when it does not “go our way” … do we stop our tephilot? Do we stop saying the specific few paragraphs of tehillam … that somehow every person seems to know by rote / memory. They walk into the room and their lips are flying….
Is that what the Naviim are angry about as well? Are we not supposed to get a new heart? A new song? Are we not told specifically that God does not want our (empty) fasts / our burnt offerings? Of course, the same Naviim state to keep shabbat… and to keep the mitvot. So which is it? How do we have a “new” heart, and yet keep the mitvot we already know by memory/ rote? How do we keep Judaism fresh?
We are not allowed (apparently) to believe in any random person who says they are speaking for God. In fact, we can kill a false prophet (I mean talk about a dangerous profession).
Our after nearly 2000 years of living among the Nations., and whoring ourselves out to every leader / to every king, to every prince, to every blue tik celebrity, how are we to get a grip and get back to who we are supposed to be? The world is up-side down.
So, we go to every tree, we go to every hilltop and pull up our skirts, constantly looking for validation — that our war with Hamas is just, that we are not committing genocide, and we give food/water/medications to the enemy because we “worry” about what “America” may or may not do. We publish news pieces that supposedly Trump said nice things, but then later he did not. We publish news pieces that Biden said he is a Zionist, and then later he said not nice things about Bibi. We call Bibi the Messiah, or alternatively, we say he is corrupt. He is the “only” one with the qualifications we said for 4 – 5 different elections. We keep looking and looking outside to others, to people who will say and do anything for the validation of others/ of the Nations.
Read the Prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah and see what they have to say on this
