A 6:50am Thought
“To know”, in Judaism, typically, perhaps the vast majority of time, means (sexual) intimacy. A level of closeness, a bonding between two bodies.
Interestingly enough, we also say, it is impossible to truly “know” God. We cannot comprehend – Ein Sof. There is no End to the matter of God.
To try to stretch our imaginations and give it a try? Sure. To write thousands and thousands of words, books, tehilam, (pslams) of praise? Sure.
To push our imaginations and depths of the secrets of the universe in a society of kabbalists? Yes. But to achieve true ‘knowledge’ of God?, Ain devar ka zeh.
The Torah states this pretty much in the beginning .. because which tree are we to not eat? The Tree of Knowledge (!), as in ‘ye;da’ah’, as in intimacy. For on that day they will become like us…..
Much later in Judaism, in the Talmudic times, there was (and is), a discussion as to why God would have Moses write “we”, (us), as in Mankind will become like us, and previously, “Let Us”, make man in “our image” and likeness. Will not the use of the plural create / cause theological questions? Are we not to believe that God is One? Why write “and let us” make man in “our image”? Why cause so much confusion?
The search for answers, and opening doors to questions, and occasionally the Talmud hits a “taku”, as in — shrug emoji, we simply do not have an answer (at this time), is one of the greatest parts /aspects of the religions (according to me).
